What are some examples of false advertising?

What are some examples when inappropriate advertising has made irreversible damages to otherwise great, efficient and quality product?

• "There is no bad advertising." "Bad advertisement is advertisement, too." - are the common sayings. Usually through advertising, average products are made to look like quality ones. What about the opposite case -  is really quality product, that has been made a bad advertising, doomed to fail?

  Historically, many people purchased products based on the perception of the brand rather than the reality of the product. Nowadays, however, I feel that people are purchasing products based more on the reality of the product. The reason I share this sentiment is because I feel great products are usually what defines a great brand and bad ads can only undermine them temporarily.  Thus I feel there are many more modern examples of good brands producing inappropriate advertisements and pulling through the experience than being doomed by them. Motrin, for example, continues to be a respected Johnson & Johnson brand despite massively flubbing their 2008 ad campaign, "Wearing Your Baby". That being said, there are a number of historic examples of bad advertising/branding, primarily due to culture misunderstanding. For example, FORD launched the Pinto in Brazil, but didn't realise that 'pinto' is used in Brazilain Portuguese slang to mean 'small male part'.  '
