What are 10 of computer outputs uses?

Every time I log into Facebook after a reboot, I get asked to name the computer again. I've done this about 10 times already. Suggestions?

  • I just got the new security roll out, and it's really annoying me. I have to enter the computer name every time I log in after a reboot and it keeps sending me an email about it. Is there a way to get Facebook to remember the computer even after a reboot? I think Facebook uses the IP to identify the machine, in which case there is no apparent way around this. If so, can I turn this feature off? Has anyone else been having the same issues? -----------------------------------Clarified Question---------------------------------- Someone marked this question as requiring further clarification, so here it is. Facebook recently launched a new feature where they ask you to name a new computer when you first try to log in from that computer. The problem I'm having is that I keep getting asked to name my home computer every single time I log in, after a reboot. While I like the feature because of the added security, it's really annoying having to enter the name over and over again. I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem or if anyone knew how to store the name of a computer permanently. I'm not entirely sure about how this feature is implemented, but I have a feeling that Facebook remembers the IP address of the computer. Since the IP is refreshed every time I disconnect, it would ask me the same question again. If there is no way to get Facebook to remember my computer permanently, is there a to turn this feature of? My browser's history is turned off btw.

  • Answer:

You can disable the feature in Account -> Account Settings -> Account Security

If your browser's history is turned off (i.e. you're in a "private" browsing mode), it's likely that your browser isn't accepting cookies either. This is almost certainly how Facebook keeps track of your computer (not via IP address). Every time you visit Facebook in this "private" mode, it looks like a new computer to Facebook because it can't save its cookie to identify it.
