What would be a good name for this service organization?

Simple question.  If I want to name my URL / startup X.com, but a reputable international organization uses it as an acronym at X.org, can I get in trouble even though we have no service overlap?

  • Answer:

You cannot get in any trouble. Many people will grab URLs close to major companies/websites in order to get additional traffic and/or sell the URL.

Other answers

It is common for different companies and organizations to have the same domain name with different extensions -- the .com, .org., .info, .tv, etc.  .com is still the most sought after, except by organizations that are happy to use the appropriate .org. If you can get that for your business, you are in luck. Grab it, because it keeps getting harder and harder to find domain names that are available.
