What are some 80's music bands?

Back to the Future (1985 movie): Why did the audition judges for Battle of the Bands stop Marty's band in the middle of their song?  Wasn't that style of music popular in the 80s?

  • Answer:

Because that band was made up of such slackers, that they would never be allowed to play at the school dance, no matter how talented, or popular their music was. Strickland would never let it happen, and the judges were just humoring the band. Plus, it sets up a funny cameo for Huey Lewis to tell Michael J. Fox to stop playing a Huey Lewis & The News song.

As the man with the megaphone said, they were just too darn loud. While the musical style might have been popular at the time, the stuffy individuals judging the bands didn't exactly look like the typical 80s rock audience. Fun fact, you may remember that Marty and his band were playing a cover of The Power of Love by Huey Lewis and the News. Many don't realize it (especially modern audiences) but it was Huey Lewis himself who played the stuffy guy with the megaphone who said "You're just too darn loud." EDIT: Thanks to Garrick Saito for adding the pic above.
