How to become a search engine optimizer?

Could Bing become the dominant search engine if the top 1,000 domains in the world removed themselves from Google's index?

  • Imagine if Wikipedia, Twitter, LinkedIn, Yahoo Answers, eHow, http://about.com, Amazon, eBay, etc added "Googlebot: No index, no follow" to their robots.txt file. Is that the only way in which Bing could win in the search space?

    If Wikipedia removes itself from Google, people will just go to Wikipedia directly, not Bing. You have to remember that these websites have brands that are pretty big. In order for Bing to dominate Google, a) Google needs to have a huge fall off in search quality and performance, b) Bing needs to step up their branding as an alternative search engine c) Bing needs to offer something significantly new compared to Google, d) Webmasters across the globe would need to agree not to bend to Google standards any more.

Maybe the losers would be these great websites because users dont search for them. Users search in order to solve their particular problem and when they search in a search engine they dont care which site provides the solution. So if these sites left Google, It wouldn' t mean that people would leave Google at the same time. So, in my opinion the losers would be those big sites. The winners would be new companies that could fill their place in Google's results.

Honestly I think Google would become bigger because all of the little guys would see this as a HUGE opening.  Google still provides the best results and until that is no longer true, it will continue to dominate.
