How to find Stakeholder analysis tools?

What's a good competitive analysis of wireframing tools?

  • I know enough about wireframing and have used bunch of the actual products, so I know it's about Illustrator, OmniGraffle, Mockups, and 2.5 million other SaaSy startups with a usual feature set.  What I'm looking for is anything I can use that would tip the scales in favour of using professional software like Illustrator as opposed to Web based tools - not that I have anything against the Web tools, but I'm looking to standardize a tool and methodology, and ability to have a Web version isn't the deciding factor for me.  If there was a way to find out 'x number of people use this vs. that', that would be handy too - the actual license numbers as opposed to Web analytics. For instance, there's a lot of 'I like this because it's free and sketchy looking' isn't really the kind of requirements I'm looking to explore.  I'd like some kind of screen by screen, 'how does this app do layers and generate prototypes, what's the learning curve, what kind of stencils' etc. -  more advanced topics than cost and Web.  In particular I'd like to know how the more advanced features like layers/masters, noting requirements etc. speed up the time to produce IxD deliverables, and how having something like Fireworks can speed things up (since it can handle wireframing and prototypes).  If you can think of any important factors about the features that tipped the scales in the argument, let me know as well. Thanks!

The actual wireframing tools should be just part of your analysis. Many people prefer different tools and different solutions (web and desktop). The bigger question is what are you going to do when you have the set of screen ready? Regardless of their fidelity - you need to communicate, collect feedback and validate the ideas behind them. When we created http://www.intuito.com - a user-research and usability-testing service for Mobile Apps, we decided to leverage any wireframing tool people are using and to provide the interaction and actionable insights on top of just viewing the wireframes online and on the device. We also recommand few tools that we use and have great stencils of Ui building blocks. Have a look at http://www.intuito.com/templates. I hope that helps.

Hi! That's a good question and though I can't help you with a simple link to research (I don't think anything like that exists) I can partially answer you :). Most licences sold "Trophy" definitely belongs to Balsamiq right now (around 80k people are using it). It's a simple tool that's useful when it comes to drawing quick, sketchy, mockups and would hardly fit in your workflow (as much as I understand it). Hopefully, soon we'll catch up Balsamiq with our tool: http://uxpin.com Our approach is different. UXPin is first dedicated User Experience Design tool and provides help throughout the design process. You can quickly create wireframes and interactive prototypes, but also invite your teammates and demonstrate them whole design process (you can add diagrams, personas, visual design etc. to your design process in UXPin). Your mates will be able to quickly give you a review of everything that you created. What's more there's full version control included. Give it a try and let me know if it solves your problems. Cheers!
