Chromebooks and ChromeOS in 2015: What are the pros and cons of Chrome OS vs Splashtop OS?

• With all the hype of Chrome OS going around it seems that people have forgotten the splashtop OS system which essentially does the same thing of providing a gateway into the web with all the stuff that comes with Chrome OS and a bit more too. So what are the pros and cons of each?

  A bit of history: Under a mutual 1-year NDA, we (Google) approached Asus in July/August 2007 with our plans to build Chromebook, and asked if they'd like to partner with us on it.  We showed them all the designs and screenshots of what we intended to do with the new concept of a Chrome webtop based on Google services. 6 months later, they launched EEE PC with embedded Splashtop OS. I guess Asus decided they could beat Google in a footrace to build the first webtop. And they did build it before Google, but ultimately Google won the race. In any case, there are a few differences.  For one, Chromium OS is open source, which some organizations consider a major selling point.  Also, it's based on web services instead of local apps, so Chromebooks are a pure webtop, not a light-weight embedded Linux. Finally, one of the biggest benefits to most organizations has been the low cost of ownership and administration, thanks to the management tools provided with Google Apps for Work. I don't think Splashtop OS has any administration tools.
