Twitterfeed: How do I use Twitter as a news source without spending hours while also continuing to follow interesting people?
-
I love reading my twitter feed and (very selectively) follow 231 Twitter users. But it takes me too much time to read it all. Its become another daunting JOB for me. I don't want to "unfollow" to reduce the size of the feed and miss out. I mainly read twitter on my iPhone/iPad and sometimes on my mac. But every time I open a twitter app, I face this insurmountable wall of tweets that I have to wade through.

Answer:
I've stopped trying to read everything. I too have a couple of sets of lists and a curated number of people I follow. I use twitter for 'what's going on right now', and I dip in and out as a like. If I miss something really important, I have a set of well curated RSS feeds that will alert me later. I've also switched off the official twitter App to TweetDeck. I use the Chrome extension and the IOS app and I find that this allows me to go back and find things if I need to sift through a few hours of tweets.

Have you tried "Lists" - they are easy to create and very useful in organizing your tweets into categories you create and assign your 'following'. I just learned about it recently. http://support.twitter.com/entries/76460-how-to-use-twitter-lists

Don't let the information stream overload you. Pick and choose and revel in what nuggets you find. I interviewed Rod Brooks, CMO for Pemco insurance and he expressed that he "lets the information find him". I.e. by realizing that no one can consume it all, you are liberated to let interesting pieces find its way to you. Read more here: http://www.marketmix2011.com/morning-coffee-with-rod-brooks-part-3/
