Why do you enjoy your job and feel happy during working?

  • After graduated from university, I have been working in a large manufacturing company for a few years. Gradually I realized that almost all of my colleagues, from people in low level to those as high as directors, do not feel happy during working. The typical image of a working person there is keep frown or like "just go out from a tomb". Only the very few times of chit-chatting about nonsense could light up the faces. Almost all people are keep praying for the arrival of weekends or holidays, although those break period only take less than 30% of their life and also keep decreasing. Making the thing even worse, the future of the manufacturing field is not promising, with more and more bad news of loss being reported. To make profit, the company is trying hard to change the role of every worker to just like a robot. In contrast, there are some others who seem live in another planet. Those people enjoy most their work and feel the work give the feeling of fulfilling. The people working in Google are an ideal example. From the theory of positive psychology, doing things meaningful is the key for a happy life. However, as Thoreau said, most men lead lives of quiet desperation. A major part of the cause of “quiet desperation” is from inappropriate work. Here I sincerely request the readers who enjoy their work could say something about their work: 1. How do you managed to find the job that you love? There maybe two scenarios: the first is one have a dream job from very early stage and keep pursuing the job until get it, the other is one have changed a few type of jobs and finally found the true love. 2. What is the most attracting aspect of your loved job?

  • Answer:

You can work at Google and be incredibly unhappy. You can sweep floors in McDonald's and be very happy. Having a 'cool' job guarantees nothing. We've all had horrible jobs at one point or another, the important thing is to limit the time you spend in this environment. Without sabotaging yourself you should think about how you can change your job in measured steps until you're at a point where you're happy. I follow this simple logic. If I'm unhappy doing something for an unnecessary period of time, I change it. That's it. Simple. Just change it.. Life is short, do what you love.

I love my job because I chose it and sculpted it to give me autonomy, mastery and purpose.  If that doesn't sound familiar, check out the video below.  And I work for a company.  But you have to interview companies like they interview you.  For that check out

I think the main issue is whether you prefer to follow orders (in which case is best) or whether you prefer to work independently (in which case is more important). In the 19th and 20th Centuries, employment was the only avenue to 'success'. It was the of that allowed and to thrive. Today, most of these factors are no longer important. You can choose whether you prefer to be self-driven or driven by a boss... -- but since most of society has not yet adapted to this freedom to choose, most of society will tend to talk more about rather than (since they are familiar with the former and unfamiliar with the latter)

I love my job as a nurse on the substance abuse unit of the VA hospital.  I have a job where I'm THANKED for my good work.  I feel like I'm helping to change lives for the better and teaching our veterans different ways to cope with the stress of living a civilian lifestyle.  I help PTSD patients learn how to process the pain they've experienced.  I'm serving my country by serving our veterans.  It's the first job that I've had that I can feel like my patients are grateful for the care they receive.
