Does Google penalize you for duplicate content?

If the goal is SEO, does Google penalize duplicate posts on across a person's social media sites?

  • If I post the same comment on my fb, twitter, linkedin, quora, stumbleupon etc, does google penalize the name of the poster? I think they might.

  • Answer:

I wouldn't recommend using the same post across each of your social media sites; users of those social networks expect very different messaging in my opinion.  Typically, our Word of Mouth  / Social Team will craft the right message for the specific network.  I have always found better engagement when using this tactic; more time consuming, yes, but better engagement. From an SEO standpoint; it is possible that Google is devaluing duplicate posts, but I wouldn't say penalizing; this is just my gut feeling.
