Can a website use .org if it is not a non-profit?

How should I use schema.org for my local vacation rental website?

  • Should I use this markup: http://schema.org/LodgingBusiness? Would I use this for every property listing? Any info would help. thanks

  • Answer:

For your business itself, yes, you would markup your site with http://schema.org/LodgingBusiness properties (seems a pretty good match for what you offer).  This would include things like your business address, opening hours and contact details. As to your property listings, alas, as far as I know there's nothing that readily accommodates you in the schema at this time.  The individual rental properties themselves are not businesses, but the things associated with what your business offers:  rentals. However, you can markup each listing with: http://schema.org/Offer - The price and availability of the property http://schema.org/Place - The location of each property (this might be fairly helpful to search engines) What you can't do at present is directly state in the markup the code equivalent of "this property rents for $1,000 a month" because there is no duration property for either Product or Offer types (they clearly were designed as something purchase-able rather than rent-able). This has been discussed, but no exact extensions yet developed for rental properties.  With GoodRelations integration into http://schema.org, this may become more feasible, as there is at least some support for rentals (e.g. http://linter.structured-data.org/examples/good-relations/rental/) but, at the current time, there's no way to so this purely with http://schema.org microdata.

Aaron, do you think that Google would perceive as an abuse if we would use rich snippets on business for sale listings sites, and to be specific for the individual advertisers listings? In my opinion I don't think so, but because you never know, I want to ask you what do you think about such a case?
