DFPEXPERT.com: How do you set up a site takeover ad tag using DFP for an ExpressionEngine site?
-
We are trying to set up a modified site takeover for one of our sites, but to be honest whether it's an EE site or any other software doesn't matter so much. How do we format the container that holds a takeover ad? How do we vertically repeat the contents? How wide should we make the image - our site's body is 1,077 px wide. Thus far I've set up an 2000x1500 ad tag and we're essentially trying to get it into the right situation. What we're finding is that when we expand the size of the browser window beyond a certain size (beyond 2000 in FF, 1800 in Chrome), the site stays centered while the takeover image floats right. It's puzzling. It almost seems like the site is relative to the window, and the takeover is relative to the screen size.

Answer:
It seems to me that this is really more an HTML/CSS problem than an ExpressionEngine problem. I would recommend that you start by simplifying the issue if you find that EE is complicating things in your mind. I would grab a copy of the HTML being output, and work with that simple static file while you debug your design. (Make sure you keep a copy of the original static file so you can diff in case you forget what you changed) work through modifying the basic HTML and CSS without sending things through EE, and them bring it back into EE once you've figured out what the issue was. I don't know what kind of code google is generating for you, but I think the developer tools in chrome and Firefox are very helpful in figuring out what styles are being applied to an element and where they are coming from.

Can you expand the question a bit? What are you goals? What aspects of using DFP with ExpressionEngine do you have questions about? In general, ExpressionEngine doesnât require anything special to use technologies like Googleâs DFP. You would simply place the proper Google supplied code in your template where you would like the ads to appear. You can even choose to place the DFP code in a snippet, and bit of reusable EE code, or in an embedded template. Either option allows for inclusion in any other template so you can keep things DRY. If you have other questions, Iâll be happy to answer them! Cheers!
