Here are some cases in which the pros might outweigh the cons: Organic SEO is not a competitive advantage to your business, and therefore you are not worried about competitors knowing what keywords you are targeting. (I would be skeptical, but there could be reasons for this) You tried using met keywords in some niche directories, and your analytics tool is showing you they are giving you lots of traffic You can get these niche directories to link to you from a far more relevant page if you provide your meta keywords. The directories shouldn't do this to you, for the reasons mentioned above, but maybe they will.
