Rent accomodation in London (UK) for 1 month at a cheap price?

Is it possible to get an apartment for rent in London for under 500 pounds/month?

  • I am a Canadian planning on moving to London in November 2011, and am wondering if I can find a place to live for about the same price I pay in Toronto.  I pay $1000/month here which would be around 550-600 pounds/month.  Ideally I would like to live in Central London or within zone 1 of the tube

  • Answer:

I rented a room in a shared house in 2001, which was in Tottenham (y' know from the riots). It was just under 400 pounds a month. I'd widen your search area to include some places outside of zone one if you're looking for somewhere cheap. If you are planning on commuting into central London, just choose somewhere near a decent tube station. I don't know all the rental markets very well these days as I live in the states now but I could tell you pretty well what an area was like if you want to know.

Your ideal is currently impossible. Unless you have a friend who wants to rent to you at below market rates for some reason (going away on holiday, working away, but wants a trusted person to take care of the place). Otherwise you will be looking at zones 3-6. You can get a room in a shared house, or a room with a shared kitchen and bathroom for £500-600 in 1-3 depending on how nice you want it to be. 1 bedroom apartments further out would start at £600 and be the very bottom of the market. Try using http://zoopla.com and look in brockley, west Norwood, east ham, Croydon and potters bar. Good luck, I'd love to hear where you end up!

I will say almost impossible, have a look at this website http://www.londonpropertywatch.co.uk/average_rental_prices.html in order to have a better understanding of London rental prices. Otherwise, you can customise your research by using Mind the Flat smart search http://www.mindtheflat.co.uk/en/search/advanced. Hope it helps

Hi there, To find apartment for rent look http://www.plazaestates.co.uk/properties-to-rent. For your question, Honestly it would be hard for you to get a decent rental apartment in Central London within your budget as this is consider as a prime location where you would get good transportation facilities, required amenities and high security too. It has seen something of revival in the past few years, with many new constructions of flats and apartments. They remain competitive in pricing and offer a great variety of rental properties to live in comfort in London.

No, it is not possible to find an apartment in Zone 1 for £500/month.  If you are lucky you may find a studio apartment in zone 1 for £1,000.  For Zone 1 you are generally lookat at prices around £300+ per week. For £500/month consider a house share / flat share as suggested. Lastly, if you were to buy a flat, your interest payments may only be £500/month.

South London in Zone 2 you will be able to rent a very nice place for 600 a month. Commute into central will be 20 mins or so. House sharing is the way to go. London is an expensive city, to rent a place for yourself in zone 1 is not going to be 600 a month, thats the harsh truth of living in London. If you can't find something, you can post your 'wanted ad' here: http://london.rentinginternational.com/node/add/classified so that rental owners can contact you with their offers in this price range. Good luck!

I would recommend a house share. Your money will go a lot futher and there you get a huge selection of people to live with.  It's always a good way to get to the know the city.  I would recommend checking areas outside Zone1. Check Camden and Islington.
