Can I change devices permissions with chmod?

How can I set file/folder permissions to 755 or 644 in Windows?

  • I need to change the folder permission in the server to secure it. I can easily changed it in Linux/MacOS using chmod or Filezilla, but it seems I can't find it for Windows.

  • Answer:

You can only setup Access Control Lists, or go through right click/Properties and check the options available there (full access, read-only, etc.)At the best of my knowledge, Windows doesn't allow you to run something like chmod 755 (I like 750 better, by the way), which is one of the reasons why Windows sucks. If you have Windows 10, you can only wait for coming updates to support bash (which has been recently announced). Once you have bash inside Windows, you'll be able to do it.

If you want to know how to set file/folder permission in Windows, then @Joseph mar's answer is what you want. But if you want to know how to set the permission to 755 in Windows, it is not possible. In different system, access permission has quite different definition.
