Is there a Google Photos API?

  • The Google Places API "recommends" that the "Powered by Google" logo appear in the top righthand corner before the results. Given that "recommends" is not a word with any real legal meaning and that the Google Maps terms of service don't explicitly define the logo requirements in legalese, can I put it wherever I want, such as at the end of the results in the bottom lefthand corner? PS, If anyone on the Google Places team reads this, go ahead and ask the UX team to put the marketing people at Google in their place. A recommendation like this is absurd and the type of thing that caused the very talented Douglas Bowman to jump ship. I'm not asking for a free API. I'd rather pay for the service than do something that is so obviously not in the best interest of the end-user who is in the middle of trying to accomplish some task with my app only to be hindered by a 159x24 pixel image on a small mobile screen.

  • Answer:

Yes, the logo can appear anywhere on the screen, including at the bottom left. The reason that we recommend the logo go at the top is because in many countries the API returns an attribution string (something like "Listings by SomeDataProvider.zz" for example) which must also be shown, and which is better suited to being at the bottom. However you are free to move the logo to the bottom, providing you also show the attributions where necessary.
