Why are you even more tired after you get too much sleep?

Why do I always feel tired even though I workout and get 6-7 hours of sleep?

  • I workout 3-5 times a week in the gym - lifting weights. I get about 45-50 hours of sleep during the week. 6-7 hours every night and then up to 10 hours on each weekend day. I still wake up everyday with my entire body feeling tired like I want to stretch badly or get a massage to make me feel better. I am 28, 5'9" and 170 pounds. Other than epilepsy (I control it by medicine and the last time I had a seizure was in 2004), I am a healthy person. This tiredness started happening end of last year. I do work a lot since I work for a smaller company and there are tight deadlines. I spend up to 15 hours a day on the computer both work and personal. But this shouldn't really be relevant to my tiredness or is it?

  • Answer:

Have you explored a sleep disturbance? And I have read that most people require approximately 7.5 to 8 hours per night consistently.  You could read some of the information at http://yoursleep.aasmnet.org and see if that offers you anything new.

Sleep more. Get 8 hours of sleep, and track it with an app, rather than think because you went to bed at a certain time you went to sleep. 6 hours is not enough.

Consider seeing a doctor. Many conditions can cause poor quality sleep such as sleep deprivation (average sleep time is 8 hrs), obstructive sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome etc. If your nighttime sleep is not very refreshing you would feel very sleepy during daytime
