Taxes in the United States of America: If I filed 83(b) in 2011 after purchasing my stocks for $X, am I supposed to see this amount appear on my 2011 W2?
-
My understanding was that the point of filing 83(b) is to recognize that grant as an income on the year of filing/ grant. If so, why shouldn't I expect that same $X amount to appear on my W2 for that year.
-
Answer:
If you paid $X for the stock, your W-2 should reflect income of FMV at purchase minus $X.
