What would be the health benefits of eating a black cherry?

If I'm eating chocolate purely for the health benefits, what's the cheapest best way to go?

  • I've done a lot of looking online about dark vs. light (dark is better), roasted vs. fermented, etc.  Wanted advice for cheap healthy chocolate.  Also wanted to know what was wrong with eating "Baker's Chocolate", it's 100% Cacao and dirt cheap.  Why doesn't everyone just eat this for health reasons?  Is it somehow processessd wrong?  How do I find out the flavonoid content?

  • Answer:

I personally just go with the 100% undutched cocoa powder that is used for baking.  It's not that easy or pleasant to eat 100% cocoa powder straight up, though.  You would most likely need to mix it in something.  Alternatively, you pay for it in bar form for the convenience factor. I have yet to perceive any health benefits that I can attribute to the cocoa powder.

Indeed, the Broma Process removes fewer flavonols, but it's usually more a problem that a diet is promoting general inflammation, limiting the good that can come from a lot of foods with subtle (or questionable) benefits. The key is to first clean up the overall diet and reduce chronic, food generated inflammation.

Gluten free chocolate cake made from: 2 tblsp. cocoa powder, 4 eggs, 1/2 cup flax seed, freshly ground 1/2 cup desiccated coconut, 2 tblsp. coconut oil, 1/4 tsp. B.P. - is tasty, and has several health benefits; especially if replacing inflammatory foods like; bread, cake and pizza. The mixture can also be baked as a waffle, drop scone or as chocolate brownies. You may add some sweetener, such as black strap molasses and a little brown sugar. (Quick flax waffle recipe: 1 egg 2 tblsp. ground flax pinch of B.P.) Any of these can be 'iced' with chocolate fudge topping: 5 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil 5 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder 5 tablespoons of finely grated coconut 1 to 4 tablespoons of brown sugar (to taste) pinch of salt Optional Ingredients  vanilla extract, cayenne pepper, chopped, or ground nuts and seeds - then refrigerate.
