How to create map overlays on google map?

• I would like to create an interactive Google map, but with the places/locations data fetches from Google places. I now I can create a cutom google map and manually (or through API) add placemarks. But in this case I'd like to reuse the data from Google places. So my request is - how can I select a number of Google places and create an embeddable map with only these places (eg the locations of my business)?

  I'm not sure if this is answering your question, but have you experimented with the MyMaps option in Google Maps? Login to google & when you click on a place marker you'll get a "save to map" option at the bottom of the information bubble. You can save the place marker to your own map (eg. MyBusinesses).  You'll get options to change the place marker style and add additional descriptive information. There's also an option to produce a link to your custom map. Its my guess that you could embed this link.
