How does the impossible app work?

How does censorship work on iTunes App Store? Why are some terms banned from an app's description?

  • The italian NGO "Certi Diritti" published and App on the App Store to provide information to the italian LGBT Community (http://itunes.apple.com/it/app/certi-diritti/id431513472?mt=8). In the App description, the words "persone omosessuali"(omosexual people) has ben censored and replaced with "persone o********i". What's funny is that the word "transessuali" (transexual) hasn't been censored.

  • Answer:

While it isn't mentioned explicitly in the App Store Review Guidelines, generally app descriptions should adhere to the 4+ age rating. From the Introduction of the App Store Review Guidelines: We have lots of kids downloading lots of apps, and parental controls don't work unless the parents set them up (many don't). So know that we're keeping an eye out for the kids. It is what it is. Certainly, discussing homosexuality (or heterosexuality, for that matter) is not for four years olds.
