Where can I find background music?

Where can I find good ambient music to play in background at home?

  • I don't like play TV all the time at home, Internet radio either with POP songs. I am looking for some nice slow tracks to play on iPad/Mac/iPhone to create great ambience while I am at home. I have iPhone radio applications like tune in radio but don't know while music station will give good ambience music. I have pandora on iPhone too. I am not looking for rain sound or camp fire sound but music while will be instrumental or slow sound tracks to create great ambience. If it's free then good else I can pay for any great service. I don't like fm for that reason. Thanks

There's a blog called 'a strangely isolated place' (named after a track by the German musician Ulrich Snauss). They are doing a very nice mix series, with lots of ambient music, sometimes combined with shoegaze, idm, dubtechno etc. I find it have a quite high level of quality. http://astrangelyisolatedplace.com/ To get directly to the mixes, go to their soundcloud page: http://soundcloud.com/astrangelyisolatedplace

SiriusXM Chill, station #53 is a good source of chillout music.  I also spent a lot of time curating this Pandora station for good chillout music: http://broadcaster.pandora.com/t?r=927&c=901946&l=37961&ctl=3A40350%3A15D53F22307AAB0F681FD30950928983050542759970026E&.  It favors music with a bit more of a beat/soft lyrics than strict ambient music.

Check out http://Youarelistening.to It's pretty neat, ambient music mixed with police radio scanners (you can choose cities, or turn them off). Kind of sounds like what you would imagine Blade Runner to sound like.

A few other radio stations: http://www.starsend.org/ https://www.hos.com/ http://echoes.org/ -- If you're more interested in owning mp3s or and getting to know more about the genre and its history, here are some blogs worth checking out: http://touch33.net/ http://reviews.headphonecommute.com/ http://www.sleepbot.com/ambience/ http://www.frameworkradio.net/ (a great field recording resource)  Hope this helps!

There are a few options.  All of the above are good but there is better. Digitally Imported - http://www.di.fm SomaFM - http://www.somafm.com These stations have some really good variety and their chillout stations are excellent.

Hi,personally i favor Mrsuicidesheep, and recently https://www.youtube.com/user/MrSuicideSheep Owlvibes, as well as https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvRtDnP3rI2eHex7mTzVsOw/featured Koala Kontrol https://www.youtube.com/user/koalakontrol all on youtube, check em out. I like that they post music that you hear nowhere else. at least i dont hear them anywhere. I hope u enjoy em as much as me. I love to hear that anytime. There are also a lot of internet radios out there where you can listen and shazam the stuff or look it up. even for your handy there are a lot of apps for this with thousands of stations. real "websites" are not out there for music, except some blogs. people use channels/blogs via yt/fb/soundcloud or apps like spotify/http://last.fm/ to search for music.Greets,Bobo

StillStream would fit your requirements well, I think. It's a non-commercial ambient radio station playing 24/7/365 at: http://www.stillstream.com/ and also via TuneIn.
