Best country for dental care?

Where is the best country to go for dental care?

  • Answer:

I am biased I guess, but I would say the US because of the numerous additional certifications that doctors can receive demonstrating continued competency. Additionally, international dentists seeking a license in the US need to go back to school to receive one, although that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I am unaware of the standards of care in most other countries. The work done overseas that I have come across usually had to be redone. It would be great if there were an online certification process, with various standardized levels of competency that could work with an online database of doctor reviews. That would definitely lower the barrier to medical/dental tourism and increase competition which I view as a good thing. Anyone interested in working on something like this seriously call me ;)

I agree with Scott:  the planet needs a global certification/reviews program for dentists & dental clinics.  Having traveled to different countries outside of Canada & the United States (which have excellent dental treatment) there is a high level of dental expertise.  You see dental clinics overseas obtaining JCI, ISO 9001 certification for their clinics but most overseas clinics find the process burdensome.  I've seen excellent dental care at select dental clinics in Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Costa Rica, Mexico, Philippines, Thailand, Spain & Turkey. Ultimately there are great dentists around the globe who do quality work...and also a handful of bad ones (just like in the US/CA).  Western clinics do not have a monopoly on quality dental care.  Like Scott I'd love to see increased global competition to raise the quality of dental care and reduce prices.

My best friend went to Prisma Dental in Costa Rica - and had the most amazing work done there. Came back to the US and her dentist here said 1) It was the best work she had ever seen, and 2) it was a 5th of the cost at least she would have charged, and 3) it would have taken months longer to do all the work. Have to do your research but great, inexpensive dentists outside the US do exist.

Where are you from? You should go get dental care where you are. Dental care isn’t like plastic surgery—- you go to the best surgeon you know and bam that’s it. Dental care involves routine check-ups and cleanings, and in the event that you do need advanced treatment, a lifetime of follow-ups to ensure your fancy dental work is functioning properly. Most developed nations have strong dental infrastructures and technology.
