If the sender was using a webmail program to send the message, then no you will not be able to see their personal IP address.  However, if the sender was using a mail client application like Thunderbird or Outlook, then you can usually discover the sender's IP address by viewing the message source/internet headers.

Even if there were, it would be source IP only, that means that if you send it through a proxy server, you could have an IP from Uzbekistan. Wherever the hells that is. (Just kidding it is by China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.) So, if you want to create a false IP presence, just choose a proxy in a country you want to be in, set your browser to use the proxy, log into your email, and send an email normally.

It's probably in the headers. What email service are you using, and are you using a Web browser or a desktop application like Outlook or Apple Mail?

If it's a traditional client-based system (Thunderbird, Outlook etc.) then the full email "Received" headers of a message sent from that address include the complete path with the original ip address. This is part of the legacy system to prevent email loops and to monitor abuse. In recent years, webmail systems such as Google have suppressed the original web client address and assume responsibility themselves for monitoring abuse and preventing loops (the headers show mail as originating at google). Cloud-based systems and outsourcing will also show a different ip origin from the actual sender. If you only have an address, not a message, you can't tell. Unless you send a message and get a reply, or use either email receipt notification or a web bug to determine if the recipient read the message.

If viewing the message source only leads you to a webmail service provider and not the true IP of the sender, it is possible to obtain a sender's IP address through link or image tracking. Both of these methods would require placing an image or a link in an email, sending it to a recipient and then using your web server logs to track the IP address that accesses the embedded image and/or the url in your message, ie the recipient views your email and displays the image or clicks on the link. This method obviously requires a web server to host the image and/or landing page for the link and some knowledge of working on a web server and crafting emails with tracking images or urls. Additionally, you would need access to your web server logs which are generally provided by most web hosting control panels. Lastly, it's worth mentioning that if the recipient never clicks on the link or chooses not to display images when viewing your email, you will not have any server log data to track.
