How does the impossible app work?

How does the Creative Commons "Share Alike" license work with regards to using material in an mobile app?

• More specifically, I would like to use both a photograph and a piece of text that available under CC using the following license: You are free... to Share — to copy, distribute and transmit the work to Remix — to adapt the work Under the following conditions... Attribution — You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work). Share Alike — If you alter, transform, or build upon this work, you may distribute the resulting work only under the same or similar license to this one. How does the "Share Alike" license work in this regards? Does this mean my entire app is bound to the "Share Alike" license, or that just the particular piece of material I'm using within the app? The reason I ask is, my app will consist of both Creative Commons licensed material as well as non-CC copyright material (photographs purchased for the specific project) — and making the entire app "share alike" would conflict with the copyright of other materials used in the app. Any advice would be appreciated! • Answer:

  The material under CC BY-SA and any derivative works of them need to be under CC BY-SA. If your application contains lots of content under different licenses, that should not be a problem, as long as they are somehow distinct from each other. But if your app remixes stuff together, then the SA clause may pose a problem.
