    Along with the points made by Eric, I'd also add that you want to think about what event will be happening at the time of close.  For example, my company sells sports cards and collectibles, so during the football season I won't end listings during times when games are played (Saturday, Sunday, Monday).  I also stay away from Friday evening as you are competing with happy hours, going out, etc.  During non-football season, I tend to favor Sunday evenings as that's typically when the majority of people are home.  Eric is correct in saying time is far more important than day.

Great question - we run thousands of auctions, and believe time of the day is more important than the week. The 6-9 PM PST time frame seems best for a US based buying audience. Catches people after work. Sunday evening is what I was told be people at eBay for the best day of the week too. One key - if selling many items, stagger their launch/ending by at least 1 minute, so as to allow people to jump to your next listing. This is helpful especially when you combine shipping rates for people winning more of your auctions. Of course, with fixed price or Buy It Now listings, this information is less relevant. Good luck!
