When is the best time of year for open water swimming in UK (temperature wise)?

Answer:
For the sea, late June to mid-september. The water temp lags behind the air temperature. It's about 18deg at the moment. It's a good idea to wear at least a short-john wetsuit though, because even if the water is warm (ish) the wind-chill can still get you.
