Computer Monitors and Screens: LED vs LCD: Which one is better?
-
I'm looking into buying a monitor and I was wondering which one is better for brightness/picture quality/etc.
-
Answer:
LED displays are LCD displays. The question you are asking is akin to: What is better, a gas powered internal combustion engine or a V-6? LED backlighting is supplanting CCFL backlighting because it is cheaper. Is it better quality? No. Is it brighter? Depends on the screen. The backlighting affects the image quality in two primary ways: the spectrum of the light, and how even it is. CCFLs take a while to warm up, whereas LEDs are essentially instant on. LED backlit LCD displays use less power, and they are thinner and lighter. They last longer than CCFL based displays due to the lifespan of the CCFL bulbs. They can be strobed to reduce LCD blurring in some gaming monitors at a cost of maximum light output. LED backlit displays can have more light bleeding from the sides. The differences between LED backlit displays and CCFL backlit displays don't really affect picture quality so much as allowing the display to be thinner, use less power, and be lighter too.

LED screens are still LCD. Some are edge-lit as the old fluoro versions were; progress is being made in creating a full LED backlight for an LCD screen intended to create brighter and more evenly lit screens. The significant difference is OLED, often mistakenly called Organic Light Emitting Diodes, when they are Organic Light Emitting Devices. These allow for vision in sunlight, and flexible display screens -- even wrapping them around poles.

Led and Lcd are two type of displays. Both have its advantages and disadvantages. Led displays are better in terms of power consumption, contrast, color quality compared to lcds but led displays are costlier compared to lcds.

I think you are asking this question for usage for television or Computer monitor or some similar purpose. My answer is with the above assumption. LED displays are better. LCDs are higher in power consumption and have lower contrast when compared to LED. the same screen size can have more number of pixels with LED. Also in LCD if ur viewing angle is different you may have a distortion seen in the picture. So on comparison certainly LED is a better choice.

They do nor refer to the same feature. LED refers to the mechanism of illuminating the LCD screen. Whit LED are used as a simple source of white light to illuminate the dots on the translucent LCD screen.
