How I use HDMI slot in my laptop to connect to 5.1 creative home theatre

    Hi, First off, are you trying to get only audio to your home theatre or do you want audio on your home theater and video on your TV ? Secondly, does you hometheatre system have a HDMI IN slot ? If so all you have to do is connect from your Laptop to the hometheater system with an HDMI cable. If you want video on your TV as well, all you need to do is connect an HDMI cable from your Hometheater, who most probably has a HDMI Out port, to your TV. Hi, Unfortunately you cannot connect your home theatre directly to your laptop using your laptop's HDMI port. Most of the speakers don't have HDMI input (which is digital); rather they have analog input (optical, L/R, etc.). You could check the back of your speakers. You may however connect your speakers to your laptop through HDMI port using external sound card which converts digital signals to analog. These sound cards have HDMI input and optical or other outputs which can be used to connect speakers. HDMI sound cards are hard to find, at least in India. I would suggest you to buy a USB external sound card instead of HDMI; as they are cheap and easily available. Most importantly you should have movies/videos with 5.1 sound tracks otherwise you would hear only stereo sound. Currently, most of DVDs and Blue Ray disks have them. Or you can buy them digitally using iTunes or other such services. Good luck.
