What does a marketing director do?

What kind of salary should I negotiate as a marketing director with no experience?

  • I have one year experience as the marketing intern for a medical device company in Chicago. The director is moving on, and the position was offered to me. I have no experience with marketing at this level, and tomorrow i'm presenting a company marketing plan to the CEO. I'm currently making 28k, and the bottom 10% of marketing directors make 57k. What should I expect?

  • Answer:

I work for http://PayScale.com and pulled some numbers. I was not sure how many employees your company has, so I just used 25. This data is local to Chicago and medical device companies. A marketing director in your field typically has 8 years experience (and a Bachelor's degree). I ran the number with a degree but with entry level experience (with is 0-1 years). The 50th percentile pay is $51,504, which is made up of a base of $47,273 and a bonus of $3,261. You might better benefit from our salary survey. From there factors like the number of people you supervise, the amount of budget that you will manage, amount of travel, skills you posess, education, etc. will have an affect on the pay. Survey: http://www.payscale.com/wizards/choose.asp.   Choose option: "You are checking a different job... - What do other jobs pay?" Good Luck!
