Which would be a more beneficial undergrad degree with future plans for an MBA: Economics, Business, Accounting, or some other?
-
What about a minor? I currently attend a community college. After this fall ill be transferring to SCSU as a junior for business. Im constantly changing my mind on what specific degree would be best for me with aspirations in the business world. Im not sure if getting my bachelors degree in business is the right route to go with future plans of an MBA. Would economics be more beneficial? Accounting? Any insight, opinions, suggesting s ,or guidance would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you

Answer:
I'll give you the same advice I gave my son when he was stressing over what to major in as a sophomore in college: Choose the major and minor that you like the best to prepare yourself for a career that you enjoy the most. Any of the above will prepare you for a career in business and an MBA. A combination of a business major and a minor in myriad other topics, be it accounting, information systems, communications, or the sciences could be an excellent foundation for an MBA If anything, there is some reason to believe that a major other than business may be advantageous from an MBA admissions perspective. (Please see http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2012-03-26/as-mba-applicants-business-majors-face-an-uphill-battle ). FYI, my son just got his first full-time job and about a year after he chose his major, he proudly told me that he gave a friend the same advice I had given him. Best, Linda

Cannot agree more with the advice above. One advice I always give to people, is to ask yourself, "Why". And when you answer that question to yourself, more often than not all your doubts will be resolved. So, while you follow your dreams and decide on an undergrad degree, ask yourself, Why MBA?

I totally agree with Linda here. All of the choices you have presented above are good ones for applying to business school. So, the one that will be best for you is the one that you are most interested in! The more interested in you are, the more likely you will be to succeed, and enjoy yourself along the way, too.

Theyâre all great, but the question really is- what are YOU interested in? What would YOU like to pursue as a career? Depending on your interests, settle on a major. Iâm thinking about earning an MBA from an accredited online college (because Iâd like to work while I study) and Iâm currently reading about the accreditation of Independence University. http://tumblr.com/tagged/independence-university-accreditation
