Which is sony product the best one?

I was working on a product that is similar to one Sony just released, given they probably have blocking patents, should I drop my idea?

  • I was building a prototype of a multiplayer TV, repurposing 3D technology. Sony just released a similar product - http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/06/06/new-3d-display-and-ps3-accessories-debut-at-e3/ at E3. I am considering dropping my project and moving on, as they probably have patented all the related IP. Any suggestions?

  • Answer:

Checking patents in nigh impossible.  They are worded so as to be impenetrable; defined so broadly that only in court will you establish what precisely is covered.  For a quick check, read the official PR release and ask the journalists at techy publications to see if there is any reference to patents. Anywat, there are so many deserved and spurious patents out there that if you worried about blocking patents you'd never do anything. Just innovate.

Well, you should check whether they have patents.  If not, I don't see why you wouldn't go ahead if you think there's still a market for you (possibly by selling to another manufacturer?)

Too many unknowns to provide a good response. How much time and money have you put into your invention? How far along are you to having a working prototype? Did you create any unique innovative technology or just rearrange existing technology? How many other innovations do you have in your head that might be more productive to work on?
