How To Compare Grocery Prices Online?

How do Sysco Foodservice prices compare to traditional grocery store prices?

  • I'd like to know average % price difference between Sysco products and traditional grocers. I know sysco prices vary depending on order quantity, location and shipping. But a "ballbark" figure would be really nice to have.

  • Answer:

As a past Sysco sales rep, I get asked this question all of the time. The answer is that it depends, but usually Sysco, or any other food distributor, is less expensive when you break it down into portion size. Of course prices do vary by location, order quantity, and type of product. Foods that stick out as large differences in price (where distributors are cheaper) are produce, seafood, and raw meats. Bulk discount grocers like Sam's Club and Costco are relatively close on price for commodities like sugar, milk, eggs, potatoes, etc. However, the biggest difference between them and Sysco is quality. Quality at grocers like Costco and Sam's Club are suspect most of the time. Restaurants that buy from them should always look at yield, pack size, and overall quality. In most cases, they are paying more in the long run.
