What are some ways to promote live music performance at a venue?

  What's the situation like? There are some things you definitely should do and some things that are apt depending on your situation. Obviously Use Social Media Tweet, Facebook share, and tell everybody you know. Get your friends to Share about it, make an event, invite everybody, etc. Spread Marketing Materials Flyers, posters, etc. These should go up at least two weeks before, but not like six months ahead. Tell Everybody You Know/Meet (1) This is generally useful to raise in conversation as a talking point, ups your street cred, and can net you one or two interested users. These are generally useful and true. But also, for the long-term and the big game: Tell Everybody You Meet (2) Do you know what other gigs are going on? Are you playing anywhere now / regularly? Friends with people? If it's at a bar, talk to the owner and see if you can announce your show during the intermission/before other people's gigs. If you have a regular show, tell everyone there. Open for others, etc - get seen, be heard. Online Stuff [1/2] Lots and lots of options for these today. Get your music up on places where indie music can be discovered (Google is your best friend). If I wanted to find indie music gigs, I'd use word of mouth (tough) or Google it (so put it up there!) Online Stuff [2/2] Generally you can't go wrong by having an online presence, putting your music around, and slowly promoting yourself / having people find you you and follow you on Twitter/Youtube/Vimeo etc so you can reel them in for future shows DISCLAIMER: I work for a startup (http://StartCut.com) which helps you upload music or videos to social networking sites and video sites. We're looking for indie artists to help push and promote their music and help them expand their online presence and reach more people long-term.
