What is the best time of year to visit Kenya?

Answer:
Actually November is the month of short rains (in theory: recent years have been somewhat unpredictable as in most parts of the world), but these are generally reckoned to have stopped by mid-Dec. From then until March is the most reliable time of year for dry weather, with as David says, good game viewing short grass and animals concentrated near waterholes and streams. The "long rains" come around April to June. On the coast, October and March are the best months for water clarity (the end of the dry seasons when in theory not too much topsoil should have been swept down the rivers and out into the ocean).

I've only been there twice but both times were during the summer months (June - August) and the weather was great. Over the 8 weeks I was living there, it only rained a couple of times. Friends who live there tell me that the spring is pretty rainy so I'd suggest making the trek sometime after April to avoid the wet weather. Also important to note that the climate and topography vary quite a bit throughout the country. That being said, make sure you research the local forecast / overall climate of the region(s) you plan on visiting. This will ensure that you have adequate clothing & gear for the cool/hot/wet/dry weather you'll be exposed to. As long as you're not planning on spending the entire time in Nairobi, you are sure to have the experience of a lifetime. Enjoy!

It depends on what you want to see but if you are not sure then November to March is the safest bet as there is little rain. This results in: Lots of sunshine (averaging 10 hours daily) if you intend to escape the beach Scarcity of water in Game parks therefore all animals gather at the watering holes where spectacular hunts can be witnessed Fewer mosquitoes thus a low prevalence of Malaria Clear Indian ocean waters for swimming, snorkeling and diving due to low siltation by rivers and rainwater. Enjoy.

June-October for the best combination of good weather and off-peak crowds/prices. Source: http://planmy.travel/index.php?route=tninja%2Fblog%2F1025

I agree with Ashley. If you're on the lookout for the migration, August is the time where the wildebeests, zebras and other animals are grazing the Tanzania-Kenya border. Maasai Mara is a great destination for game viewing this time around as well. Late August is an amazing time of year to visit Kenya if you want to see lots of game. You can see part of the Great Migration in the Maasai Mara, which is one of the most spectacular things I've seen in my life. Better yet, hop on over to the northern Serengeti in TZ where there are less people/cars. Millions of wildebeest make the trek each year, its unbelievable. Plus, its not too cold in most parts of the country at that time of year, nor too hot at the coast.

It depends what you're looking for. If it's animals, then nov - jan are best, when the grass is still dry and a bit low, for better viewing, and the animals are more concentrated.
