Has anyone used domestic solar photo-voltaic panels to charge an electric car?
-
I already have some panels (3kw) and need to re-slate another roof. I don't drive a lot and thought I could add some more panels to help power a green car.

Answer:
Quite a few people use them to offset the cost. It's not hard to calculate the size of the array needed. For example a Nissan Leaf has a battery equivalent to 24 KWH. Let's say range is 70 miles on average so about 3 miles per KWH. If you drive about 50 miles a week, that's about 2600 miles a year and 866 KWh. Let's round to 1000 KWh to take into account charger efficiency. Your current array will easily produce 1000 Kwh in a year.
