What are the best NON smartphones?

Which low-end mobiles (non-smartphones) supporting contacts sync with GMail?

  • ...without additional non-native services

  • Answer:

I haven't come across a model that does it natively (out-of-the-box), but a large number support Java and there are apps for this. This is about Gmail in particular; I have seen phones supporting other online services, typically through the operator-customised functionality (to synch with their own mail hosting and contacts backup). One case was Vodafone's '360' but it launched shortly before I switched to 'smart' and I lost track how it's performing (or not) nowadays.

I've done this successfully with a Nokia 6300, which is an old, Symbian 40 based phone. I don't have any of the newer (and cheaper) S40 phones, but I assume this would work there. I used the instructions on this page: https://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=98265 Works as advertised. This doesn't sync in the background though- you have to trigger it manually.

Any phones that support SyncML can sync. I use Soocial (http://www.soocial.com) to sync with mails, Macs, smartphones, Outlook etc. Check the full list of phones out at their webpage.

I have a HTC phone which is using an OS of Win Mobile 6.5 Standard.  Using my local Wi-Fi and PC, I was able to sync emails and outlook contacts.
