What is external DNS?

What are the good ways to to setup a CNAME record that maps Load balancer to a DNS? Does AWS provide sample DNS to test this scenario?

There is a problem with Amazon Alias on ELB, normally (depending on you DNS configuration) you must set at least one A record to a first label domain. Amazon Route53 has modified their DNS so you can Add A, AAAA and dualstack (A-AAAA) records to your domains. Bind by default doesn't allow you to setup aliases, nor CNAME'S to http://domain.com for example. So, you could add a CNAME to http://subdomain.example.com referring to amazon's ELB.

I would add to the list of services that offers a DNS Management tool for AWS EC2 or Rackspace. With Scalr you can easily create A-Records or C-Records.
