How to store data in php and get data from php?

How did milo.com get their data in the early days with store pushback?

  • Now that lots of stores are on-board, http://Milo.com is a useful tool and drives traffic to retailers involved. BUT, in the early days there was a chicken and egg problem. "Why should I provide my data to you?", "I don't want my data shared and compared to other competitors.", etc. I'm considering a similar model for a project I'm working on. I'm curious about how http://Milo.com overcame getting the first 1-3 retail partners on board. Users already on-board to some extent? Killer model for stores getting involved that was easily understood ? Industry connections via ComScore founder (http://Milo.com founder's dad)?

  • Answer:

Before Milo connected directly to merchant inventory systems, they actually built crawlers that crawled retail sites of local branches and then just built upon that to create a value proposition.

Plus that information was somewhat already available to consumers that took the time to search retailers' web sites. Since the information was already there, I guess there wasn't much argument for not playing the game. Still, I am very curious about their early days marketing and implementation strategy (i.e before they developed their sync software): did they integrate with stores' ERPs / POS on a case by case? Would anyone know how hard it is to sync with those systems?  I'm looking at something somewhat in Europe and keep hearing that very few ERP / POS have APIs and that setting up EDIs is a nightmare...
