Where to take an ATV safety course?

What percentage of motorcyclists take a motorcycle safety course before becoming licensed?

  • It is possible, in CA at least, to get your motocycle license without taking a safety course if you can pass a written test and a riding test at the DMV. I took the course first but curious how many people just go to the DMV and take the test.

Of course you can take the DMV Riding test and not have to shell out for the MSC. But, 1. The DMV test is brutal. You will surely fail unless you go to the DMV course and practice (on weekends) and practice and practice. You basically fail if you even touch a line. The course is tight, the lanes are narrow, and the speed you have to maneuver around the course is <5 mph. 2. The MSC is actually worth it, just to get you in the right frame of mind for riding. MSCs are NOT however optimized for scooters, so you'll be learning stuff you don't need. And, be sure to check if they have a scooter that you can use, or bring your own. Otherwise you're going to learn on a motorcycle.
