International Work program in Europe?

Is there any program that allows a non European to travel and work, for a short time period, in Europe?

  Absolutely! There are number of bilateral "work and travel" or "youth mobility" visa schemes in effect between most European countries and countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Canada. (These are the countries that Germany and the UK have agreements with, it may be different for other countries) Conspicuously absent from this list are the USA, which appear to be less interested in cultural exchange. These visa allow young people to travel and work in one participating European country for twelve months. They do not allow you to work in other countries. The age limit varies from agreement to agreement; for instance: in the UK, the maximum age is 30, for Canadians going to Germany, it is 35. If you're a citizen of one of the countries above, the website of the embassy of your destination in your country will tell you more. If you're not, you're out of luck.
