Which is the best solution/practice in order to interact with an html prototype OFFLINE on Android mobiles?

  • In case that you want to run a usability test with a hifi prototype for android, how can you store the hmtl pages offline? That answer should not be a browser (like Offline Browser or Offline Web), should be a way to load pages from somewhere local (e.g. SD).

    I've been doing the same thing for iOS by using the browsers "save for offline" feature. You have to provide an appcache manifest, and edit a little HTML. If it works, then the device caches the prototype locally for offline use. You can share the link to your prototype with clients as it doesn't need them to do anything difficult.  Chrome certainly supports this for desktop; not sure about Android. The solution I found is to copy the whole directory in the SD or local memory and then open index.html with a capable for this job browser, such as Opera and Firefox. The best browser for the job appears to be the "Kiosk Browser" by Andy Powell - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.automated.android.browser.kiosk&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsIml0LmF1dG9tYXRlZC5hbmRyb2lkLmJyb3dzZXIua2lvc2siXQ , it runs real full screen, can be dedicated to one site, it can run full sites fron the SD or local memory. Tested on an Android Samsung I9001 Galaxy S.
