Are electric scooters legal in NYC?

Why aren't there more scooters in NYC?

  • Answer:

Parking. It's hard to find spots on the street and your scooter can get stolen and garages are expensive and defeat much of the on/off convince of the scooter in the first place.

Street cred, more specifically the lack associated with scooters.

Simple, lanesplitting/filtering is illegal. Since used cars can be bought for like $4,000 (the price of a brand new decent scooter/motorcycle), there really is very few reasons to get a scooter if you live in NYC.And since people who live in NYC can easily afford a car, they have no reason to get a scooter.Once you make filtering illegal, two-wheelers will only be bought for recreational purposes. Unlike in countries where filtering is legal, you cannot survive if you donĂ¢€™t have a two-wheeler, like many tourists who go to Thailand would have realized.
