How can I get my credit score higher quickly?

How can you get a full credit report without lowering your credit score?

  • I would like to get a full credit report (not just a score, but an explanation of what might have caused penalties). How can I get a full credit report? I don't mind paying. I also understand that checking your credit can actually DECREASE your credit. How can you check without lowering your credit score?

  • Answer:

Checking your own credit report or score doesn't affect your score. As far as your FICO® score is concerned, credit inquiries are classified as either "hard inquiries" or "soft inquiries" – only hard inquiries have an affect on your FICO score. Soft inquiries are all credit inquiries where your credit is NOT being reviewed by a prospective lender. These include inquiries where you're checking your own credit (such as checking your score in myFICO), Source: http://www.myfico.com/crediteducation/questions/inquiry-credit-score.aspx You get a free credit report per year from each of the credit bureaus. Go to https://www.annualcreditreport.com/ to start the process.

One of the biggest credit myths out there is the rumor that checking your own credit hurts your credit scores.  It's simply not true!  Check your scores as often as you'd like. [1] [1] http://www.creditnet.com/weekly-tips/dont-sweat-the-soft-inquiries.php

is right -- http://annualcreditreport.com is the only place to get a free report from each of the three bureaus. I wrote up an entry on my blog at http://www.utahmortgagetoday.com/utah-mortgage-advice/fico-credit-score/ related to this topic.

You can check your own credit report without penalty.  Also, you don't have to pay for it.  If you go to http://annualcreditreport.com you can get free access, once a year, to your credit report from all 3 bureaus.

I do not think the credit information bureaus in India provide any explanation for the specific credit score. So you can not get the reasons for your specific credit score. As I understand the credit score is a magic number which is produced out of thin air. I remember even Mr.  Arun Thukral of CIBIL having told my ex colleague that even he himself can exactly explain how the score is calculated or computed.
