What is the preferred/standard citation method (MLA, Chicago, APA, etc.) for a research based book on art?

Answer:
The Chicago Manual of Style is the standard style manual used by most art historians and art institutions. This style guide put out by the Association of Art Editors is also very useful as a supplementary resource: http://www.artedit.org/styleguide.htm
