How can i upload my documents?

How can I upload iWork (Pages) documents from my Mac to iCloud?

  • I have many documents on my Mac that I would like to upload to iCloud, similar to what Google Docs offers. Is that possible without having iWork installed on my iPhone?

    No, not really. ICloud at present is designed to work within apps, i.e. it can be used by apps with iCloud support built in. It's not a general purpose file sync or transfer system. If you have compatible versions of the iWork apps on more than one device using the same iCloud account, then those devices will share iWork documents. If you don't have those apps then you're out of luck as far as using iCloud for iWork goes.

It is possible to upload arbitrary file types to iCloud for syncing between multiple Macs, but these will not be accessible on an iOS device as it does not provide direct access to the iCloud "file system." iCloud data is stored on your Mac in the ~/Library/Mobile Documents folder. Anything you place in this folder will be automatically picked up by the iCloud process and synced across to other Mac OS X computers that share the same iCloud account.  This is not an officially supported way of doing things, but it does work for basic file synchronization.  Just be sure you create a new sub-folder and avoid touching anything in the existing folders, as these contain data from iCloud-enabled apps on your iOS devices. All of that siad, you'd probably still be better off using a service like Dropbox, which provides a 2GB account for free and an iOS app that actually will allow you to access your files and open them in other supported apps on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.
