Answer:
Whiskey with soda water. It's whiskey so there's a presumption it's sophisticated. It's simple and easy, as most sophisticated things are. It’s just soda water so you actually get to taste the whiskey (so opposed to say, a whiskey coke). There's no extra sugar or caffeine so you get drunk faster and the hangover isn't that bad, i.e. drinking it is a sign you know what you're doing. And finally, it was a popular drink back in the day (I'm talking pre-WWI).
