Is "potent" a good word to describe a leader?

What would be a good word, phrase, joke, or expression to describe people who are addicted to buying gadgets?

  • Inspired by the question 'Gadgets' can include non-electronic devices as well as electronic ones and can cover items as large as ride-on lawnmowers down to as small as the most miniature Swiss Army knife. [EDIT: gadgetaholic is specifically disallowed, as are all words with an "aholic" suffix. Unless they are really funny. ]

If they are consumed with owning Apple products then these people are sometimes referred to as 'hipsters'.
