    I don't have any examples of getting people to 'opt-in' to targetted ads.  What I will say is that the only way this works is when you accomplish several goals all at once: 1) Make it completely transparent who is doing the targeting, what information is being collected, how the information is used/shared/stored 2) Have the 'value exchange' conversation - Remind the visitors to the site that it costs money to write, edit, publish content or to build and operate a service and remind them that advertising helps to pay for the site... AND that targeted advertising make a more non-intrusive experience for the visitor - and more revenue for you 3) Do all of this in a way that the consumer will engage with and not just 'skip' off the site at the first hint that things aren't completely easy and free.
