How to find OPPORTUNITIES?

Sponsorship: How do I find corporate brands willing to sponsor advertising opportunities, to help charities raise money?

  • My company is trying to find multiple corporate sponsors for several different fundraising opportunities which will help raise $1M for the charity. http://graywaterops.com/?page_id=432 is a page with all the details and offers, and the password is "brand" We have a solid method to help raise big $$ for any national charity or non-profit looking to raise money but lack the experience to find the right sponsors willing to support our project.

Hello, One source I have used very effectively is Redbooks -- but getting a subscription can be costly. However, here in NYC, there is a Small Business library that has free access. Also, many universities offer access to their business school students. Redbooks gives you listings of all the major players at companies around the world -- and frequently will list email addresses and telephone numbers. I would also do -- as Lewis suggests -- check out who is sponsoring  groups nearby. You may also want to check out who is sponsoring similar groups across the country, as some companies (Macys, for example, and Staples, Target, etc) give both locally and nationally. You can contact me directly at Lorrsg at g mail dot com if you have more questions.

Hi,   Besides contacting the current donors of the local St. Judes, and business partners via Delmarva Broadcasting company and your own at Gray Water, I'd suggest this additional potential outreach.   I see you have the local radio stations in Cat County - 97.5 and 105.9 FM to support you. So my suggestion, given this is a locally-focused promotion to this area, is to find local businesses who could most benefit from the exposure and the association with an excellent chairty like St. Jude's.   Below is a map of the coverage map for the two stations: If possible, get the two zip codes for the above coverage area/center of the circle (the radio station should have this data) Then go over to http://www.LinkedIn.com (sign up if you're not a member) and you will see a "People" search on the top bar area. Click on "Advanced". On the next page you will see on the left side an option to put in a zip code - take one of the center circle zip codes (21803?) and plug it in with an appropriate radius (50m?) ... Now on the above search options look for TITLE. In here put various titles such as "CEO", "President", "Marketing" you can put in combo's of these to narrow it down. Remember to set the option to "Current" under the TITLE instead of "Current or Past". You can specify an industry if that helps.  This could give you potential contacts to reach out to. If you get few connections let me know and I can help.   I'd also look at the other large charities in the area and see who they have as their singificant donors - these companies are also good targets as they have already been sponsors, etc. of local charities. Also your contact your local Chamber of Commerce as ask for their membership list. I have found that businesses who are active in the local chamber are more open to local promotions such as yours.   Hope this is useful!

Hi Keith, A great question. In looking at your site, I think you've done a terrific job laying out all the necessary who, what, when, why and wheres, so to speak. What sponsorship entails, what your ultimate goal is, who your audiences are...they're all very clearly articulated. While looking over your page, the word "community" kept coming up again and again and so naturally, I started wondering if you had explored potential sponsors in your particular area who have a reputation for giving back? If you haven't, I would recommend starting there. In my experience, chain stores/conglomerates often have larger corporate responsibility programs that are uniquely structured to give in ways that are uniquely relevant to their consumers in specific areas. In fact, grocery store chains are one of the best examples of this kind of giving because they truly pride themselves on serving their communities. Oftentimes, their official giving programs or sponsorship programs have limitations that insist on tying back to the local community, whereas global organizations tend to focus on global sponsorships. Therefore, I think you're best starting place is to look around--who are the companies with a visible presence in your geographic region, whose audiences are local/regional community members, and who have a history of community-based programming. You might also want to consider tying in a "action" that leads your audience back to the sponsor (companies can't help it, they'll always need to ask, "what is this going to do for me?"). Immediately, when seeing your page, I thought, wouldn't it be neat if the sponsor offered a "bonus" to the buyers of your coin...i.e. "Bring your coin back to our store [insert grocer or large chain store here] and receive 10% off your next purchase." It's got to be not just a win-win (charity-consumer), but a direct win-win-win for everyone (charity-consumer-sponsor). Good luck!

I'm not the marketing guru, but I do advise companies on law related to marketing and sponsorships. The most important issue you may have to deal are the laws surrounding "Cause Marketing".  Each state has its own laws so if you are going to be in all states you'll have to do a lot of research (and, I hate to say, spend a lot of legal $$).  In many cases, you may also have to comply with other charitable soilcitation rules of each state you'll be active in. In sum, make sure you you don't overlook legal landmines in this field.
